Two hundred Grade 5 and 6 students created art works and haiku poems following their study of the ecosystem of the St. Lawrence and Lake St. Louis, including the 78 species of turtles and fish threatened by our actions. The art was exhibited at Centennial Hall and on March 22 at the Biosphere for World Water Day.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>A round table with Francis Scarpaleggia, M.P. Lac St-Louis, Geoffrey Kelley, M.N.A. Jacques-Cartier and Mayor Bob Benedetti allowed students to question their political representatives about the present situation of Lake St. Louis and Meadowbrook stream and the action each Level of government is prepared to take to improve the current status of our fresh water. The students were encouraged by the enthusiastic response promising federal and provincial cooperation in clean up efforts for the St. Lawrence. The Mayor announced the Centennial Hall and the outdoor facilities at the beach wil be connected to municipal sewers this spring, replacing the septic system. A project to clean up Meadowbrook and plant shrubs to rehabilitate the banks along the stream will also soon be underwasy, with student participation.
